CE: Silver Diamine Fluoride: Its Place in the Hygiene Appointment
Elyssa Jacobs, RDH
Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is an antibiotic liquid that is applied to a carious or sensitive surface to inhibit the caries disease progression and desensitize dentin. SDF is beneficial for children, adults with financial concerns for pending treatment, and the elderly population, especially those who might suffer from failing restorations and root caries. Annual or biannual application of SDF in the hygiene room would greatly benefit patients suffering from salivary disfunction, precooperative children, geriatric patients, those with cognitive or physical disabilities, and patients with dental phobias.

In-office professional whitening is making a huge comeback. Each product has something unique to set it apart from others. Choosing the right one for your office can be based on the average results, overall cost, and margin of profit. The best way to determine which whitening product is best for your office is, if possible, to try at least a few options to see which system and budget works best with your office.
